In 1893, the Thibodeau family, native of Sai nt-Eulalie, becomes owner of pieces of lands which today, occupy a big part of the current Parc de la rivière Gentilly. Over the years, the Thibodeau who settled down had a prosperous life , thanks to the saw, grain, shingle mill and the ochre mine. After the ochre mine closed down , several years later lived a single descendant of the Thibodeau family: his name is Omer Thibodeau, he inherited the house and the land. He lived an hermit life and had crude habits that gave birth to all kinds of stories which fed rumors up to his death.
In 1992, the “Association pour la mise en valeur de la rivière Gentilly inc.”, also known as the “Parc de la rivière Gentilly”, a non-profit organisation was born, thanks to the development of an electricity network in Nicolet-Radisson-Cantons by Hydro-Québec which started in 1989.
In the summer of 2002, began a rejuvenation cure of the existing installations, the construction of a sceptic tank and development of a beach volleyball site. In autumn of 2002, the park returns to its sources with a project from “MRC de Bécancour”. Once the financing granted in spring of 2003, the development of the “Place équestre” has come: 10 equestrian sites for recreational vehicles and a big shaded place for horse pens. Finally, in fall of 2004, the implementation of the Thibodeau's historical circuit.
